More About the Role:
This role supports the U.S. Navy's Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) program, a high-visibility DoD program that provides engineering support to the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), the largest information technology (IT) network in the world. This position will provide many opportunities to challenge and grow your skills.
In this role, the Senior Cloud Architect will lead a dynamic team of cloud engineers and specialists in analyzing, migrating, refactoring, and operating multiple applications across various cloud platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of cloud architecture, containerization, automation, and DevOps practices along with excellent leadership skills, and the ability to drive complex cloud transformation initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience with multi-cloud environments, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a track record of successfully delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud solutions.

The selected candidate will be a senior member of the SMIT organization, providing strategic leadership, including creation or application of modernization strategies, multi-cloud architectures, roadmaps, and CONOPS.
What You'll Get to Do:
1. Cloud Strategy & Design:
-Develop and refine cloud architecture strategies that align with business objectives and requirements.
-Design multi-cloud solutions that ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
-Lead the evaluation and selection of cloud providers and services based on project needs.
2. Leadership & Team Management:
-Lead a team of cloud engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance management.
-Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
-Coordinate with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment of cloud initiatives with broader IT goals.
3. Migration & Refactoring:
-Oversee the analysis of existing applications to determine the best migration strategy to the cloud.
-Lead the migration of applications to multiple cloud environments, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
-Guide the refactoring of applications to optimize performance and cost in the cloud.
4. Cloud Operations & Optimization:
-Implement best practices for cloud operations, including monitoring, security, and cost management.
-Continuously optimize cloud infrastructure and services for cost, performance, and scalability.
-Ensure the security and compliance of all cloud-based applications and data.
5. Stakeholder Communication & Reporting:
-Communicate cloud strategies, plans, and progress to senior management and other stakeholders.
-Provide regular reports on cloud performance, costs, and other key metrics.
6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
-Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies and trends, and recommend new tools and services to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
-Lead efforts to integrate automation and DevOps practices into cloud operations.
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
• Typically requires Masters with 15-20 years of prior relevant experience or Doctorate with 13-16 years of prior relevant experience (in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field). A Master's degree is a plus.
• 12+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years in cloud architecture and management. Additional years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• US citizenship is required and able to obtain Secret security clearance.
• Proven experience leading teams in cloud migration and multi-cloud environments.
• Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and others.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native application design, microservices, and containerization (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
• Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect are highly desirable.
• Knowledge of cloud security best practices and experience implementing them in multicloud environments.
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex infrastructure issues.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
• Occasional travel may be required.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
• Certifications in AWS and/or Azure.
• Experience with hybrid cloud and edge environments (e.g., Azure Arc, Azure Stack, AWS.
• Outposts, AWS Family).
• Familiarity with cloud-native data services.
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and tools for managing multi-cloud environments.
• Experience working in cloud environments at different classification levels.
• Security+ or higher technical certification for DoD Secret clearance (IAT Level II+).

Pay Range:
Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
